PHILIPPINES
The Philippines Filipino: Pilipinas; Spanish: Filipinas /Felipinas ), officially the Republic of the Philippines (Republika ng Pilipinas; RP), is an island nation located in Southeast Asia, with Manila as its capital city. The Philippine Archipelago comprises 7,107 islands in the western Pacific Ocean east of Vietnam. The country reflects diverse indigenous cultures from its many islands as well as European-American influence from Spain, Latin America and the United States.
Modern day Filipinos are of Austronesian descent, although there is a minority of Filipinos with Spanish, Mexican, American, Chinese, Arab, and Indian ancestry.
Through its rich history, Philippine culture has many affinities with the West specially with Spain and Latin America due to three centuries of Spanish colonial rule. Roman Catholicism is the predominant religion, and Filipino and English are the official languages.
